Frequently asked questions
Short answers about what Picafelli does, what it costs and where your work is kept.
Getting started
What is Picafelli?
Picafelli is an online studio for designing your home. You draw your floor plan — walls, doors, windows, stairs — and see it straight away in real-time 3D, then furnish it and try finishes on the floors, walls and roof. It runs in your browser: there is nothing to install.
Is it free? Do I need an account?
You can draw, furnish, view in 3D and share without paying. A free account is all you need to create projects and keep them. Two optional features, the AI assistant and the import of an existing floor plan, run on an AI key of your own, and your AI provider bills you for that use.
Does it work on a phone or a tablet?
Yes, on a computer, a tablet or a phone, in a recent browser with 3D (WebGL) support. On a phone the studio opens in viewing mode, so you can look around without moving anything by accident; tap the padlock to edit. The room scan needs a phone, because it uses the camera. The site is available in English, French, Spanish, German and Italian.
How do I start a project?
On the home page, create a project and name it, then choose how to begin: from a blank plan, by scanning your rooms with your phone, or from a picture of an existing floor plan. All three lead to the same studio, where everything can still be changed.
Drawing and furnishing
How does the room scan work?
You film the room with your phone's camera and Picafelli works out its width, length and height. You can correct the figures before adding the room to your plan.
See how the room scan worksCan I start from a floor plan I already have?
Yes. Upload a picture of the plan and give its scale; an AI model redraws the walls, doors and windows as a plan you can edit. It runs on an AI key you connect yourself (Claude, OpenAI, Gemini or xAI), and you can correct the result in the studio.
Can I design a house with several floors?
Yes, up to four storeys. Each has its own walls, openings, furniture and ceiling height, and a staircase is sized automatically so that it lands exactly on the floor above.
What can I put in my design?
More than 900 pieces of furniture, trees and plants for the garden, doors, windows and staircases, kitchen units with their worktop, shower trays and glass screens, pools and pergolas, and hundreds of finishes for floors, walls and roofs. If a piece is missing, you can build it yourself from simple shapes in the Object Studio.
Browse the furnitureCan I try real tiles, renders and paints?
Yes. Every product in the Mediterranean Materials catalogue — terracotta tiles, zellige, limewashes, renders, béton ciré and paints from real workshops — has a “See it in my room” button that lays it on your floor or walls in the studio. The catalogue also names each product's maker and, where it is published, its price.
Open the materials catalogueWhat does the AI assistant do, and what does it cost?
It changes your plan from a sentence, such as “put a sofa and a coffee table in the living room” or “paint the walls sage green”, and each answer is a single step you can undo. It runs on your own API key, with Claude, OpenAI, Gemini or xAI: your request goes straight from your browser to that provider, the key stays in your browser, and the provider bills you for the use.
Saving and sharing
Where are my projects saved?
In your account: once you are signed in, your projects are saved there and follow you to your other devices. Signed out, the home page shows none. Objects you made in the Object Studio stay on the device for now.
