Peinture à la chaux

The same material as a badigeon, sold ready-mixed and rolled on: more opaque, more even, and less alive.

Mykonos: facades whitened again every year, in a tradition that was the tradition of lime.

What it is made of

Lime putty, mineral fillers, pigments and workability additives, batched at the factory for two coats without dilution.

Application

The support

A sound, cohesive support. On plaster or plasterboard, a mineral bonding primer; over old acrylic paint, the primer the maker prescribes.

Tools

Medium-pile roller or wide brush, tray, masking tape.

Steps

  1. 1Stir the tin thoroughly: the fillers settle.
  2. 2First coat, lightly thinned if the data sheet says so.
  3. 3Second coat neat, crossing, without overloading.

Drying

12–24 h between coats; gentle washing possible after a few weeks.

The trade’s general sequence, at about 20 °C. Where a producer publishes its own data sheet, that sheet wins.

Upkeep

A damp cloth on a fresh mark; it does not really wash, and it is touched up by recoating.
