What it is made of
White Portland cement, mineral fillers (quartz, silica), pigments, and a polymer binder — the "resin" — at 10 to 40% of the cement weight: it is what gives grip, flexibility and freedom from shrinkage, and it is also what closes the wall.
Application
The support
A sound, flat, dry support — half of the result. Tiles degreased and sanded, joints filled, the kit’s bonding primer; in a shower, a waterproofing membrane or system under the béton ciré.
Tools
Steel trowel, spatula, mixer, roller for primer and sealer, sander.
Steps
- 1Bonding primer, sometimes with a reinforcing mesh on supports that move.
- 2First coat of béton ciré, thin and tight, lightly sanded once dry.
- 3Second, finishing coat, worked with the trowel for the shading.
- 4Two or three coats of varnish or protective wax on a perfectly dust-free surface.
Drying
The kit gives the times: typically a few hours between coats; light foot traffic after 48 h, water and full use after one to two weeks.
The trade’s general sequence, at about 20 °C. Where a producer publishes its own data sheet, that sheet wins.
